Return for Recycling Service

As part of our efforts to comply with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 concerning batteries and waste batteries, we want to provide you with important information on how you can help prevent waste and littering and how you can contribute to the reuse, recycling and recovery of used batteries.

By choosing products that are durable, repairable, and recyclable, you can significantly reduce the amount of waste generated. Proper maintenance and care of your batteries can also extend their life, reducing the need for frequent replacements.

When your batteries reach the end of their life, it is crucial to dispose of them properly. Batteries contain hazardous substances that can harm the environment as well as endanger human health or the safety of persons if not handled correctly.

You are required by law to discard waste batteries (i) separately from other waste streams, including from mixed municipal waste, and (ii) in designated separate collection points. To this end, please take advantage of free collection points that are available in your area. You can obtain the addresses of municipal collection centres from your city or local authority. By recycling your batteries, you help recover valuable materials and prevent pollution.

Littering is a significant environmental issue that affects our communities and natural habitats. To prevent littering, always dispose of your batteries in the appropriate recycling bins.

Please be informed that by law distributors are required to take back waste industrial batteries from the end-user free of charge and without imposing an obligation on the end-user to buy or to have bought a new battery, regardless of their chemical composition, brand or origin. Distributors must take back such batteries at or in the vicinity of the distributor’s retail outlet. These obligations apply mutatis mutandis to distributors that supply batteries by means of distance contracts to end-users. Those distributors shall provide for a sufficient number of collection points covering the whole territory of a Member State and taking into account population size and density, expected volume of waste industrial batteries, and accessibility for and proximity to end-users, allowing end-users to return batteries.

You can also return old batteries via Jackery’s Return-for-Recycling service.
The recycling service is free.
- If it is returned under warranty, Jackery will cover the return shipping cost.
- For units out of warranty, customers are responsible for the return shipping costs.

The crossed-out wheelie bin symbol on the battery indicates that the battery must not be disposed of unsorted in the waste but must be handed in for recycling at the end of its service life at a designated collection point of the local municipality or special collection and return systems. If a chemical symbol is shown below the symbol, this indicates that the battery contains the corresponding chemical substance (Cd = cadmium, Pb = lead).

We are committed to ensuring the safe handling and disposal of waste batteries. It is important to follow these safety instructions to protect yourself and the environment. When handling waste batteries, especially those containing lithium, it is crucial to be aware of the potential risks. Lithium batteries can pose hazards such as overheating, fire, and even explosions if not handled properly. To ensure your safety, please follow these guidelines:

1. Avoid Physical Damage: Do not crush, puncture, or disassemble batteries. Damaged batteries can leak harmful chemicals or catch fire.
2. Keep Away from Heat and Water: Store batteries in a cool, dry place. Avoid exposing them to high temperatures or water, as this can cause them to overheat or short-circuit.
3. Proper Disposal: Do not dispose of batteries in regular household waste. Instead, take them to designated recycling or disposal facilities. This helps prevent environmental contamination and allows for the recovery of valuable materials.
4. Handling Precautions: When handling batteries, use protective gloves and eyewear to avoid contact with any leaking chemicals. If you notice any swelling, leakage, or unusual odor, handle the battery with extreme caution and seek professional assistance.
5. Emergency Situations: In case of a fire, use a fire extinguisher or sand to extinguish the flames. Do not use water, as it can react with lithium and worsen the situation.

Jackery offers a return-for-recycling service program, allowing customers to return used, unwanted, or end-of-life products for proper disposal, recycling, or repurposing. This service helps reduce environmental impact by ensuring materials are handled responsibly, preventing them from ending up in landfills.

Jackery offers our Return-for-Recycling service to all customers, with verification of their purchase of any Jackery Power Generator through authorized sales channels.
